Lilly Blue Eyes called to safety by George

One evening, I was sitting in the living room with my boyfriend Chris, enjoying a good movie. Our one year old cat, George, was gazing into the evening through the open widow in the other room. All of a sudden he starts talking, not really meowing, but talking in pitches. He approached me in excitement, stretched his front paws to my knees, and taps me on my leg to get my attention, as he often does when he wants my attention. It's as if he is saying, “Mom, come quick, there is something in the back yard you must see!” ...<< MORE >>

Border Route Trail Maintenance Updates

Thanks to those members of Rovers and the Minneapolis Hiking Meetup Group that helped with the spring maintenance on the Pigeon River Cliffs Section of the Border Route Trail.

We did well with dead-fall removal on 8.8 miles and brushing on 5.2 miles, which combined with maintenance trips last fall has brought the Pigeon River Cliffs Section up to good usable hiking condition. The new people from the Minneapolis Hiking Meetup Group, with which the Border Route Trail Association recently reached an affiliation agreement, were especially enthusiastic and are all set to join us on the next trip.

Car Camping and relaxing

This past weekend we went camping at William O'Brien State Park. I was totally looking forward to this trip, as it was the first warm weather camping trip of the season. It's always something I look forward too every spring ... breaking out he camping gear, making multiple trips to REI for new camping gear, and reassessing the old gear.

The state park we visited is located on the St Croix River which runs along the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota. There were close to 80 campers this weekend at something called the "Spring Extravaganza". Each spring and fall, the Minnesota Rovers Outdoors Club holds an Extravaganza. All campers and outdoorsmen and women, join together at several group campsites in a nearby (to the the Twin Cities, MN) state park. We do things like hiking, canoeing, kayaking and biking. Several trip leaders plan many activities for all levels and speeds.

There was also climbing, geocaching, orienteering, first aid tips, and something called a drum jam for campfire enthusiasts. And if can't sleep, Dave will keep you entertained around the campfire with Lewis & Clark music and tales, Native American campfire cooking, and interesting warm drinks. It was like we really were on some kind of adventure across America.

Although I spent most of my weekend getting to know new people and volunteering to cook and set up and clean up ... it is always lots of fun!

A reCycle around the World!

David Byrne is a quiet guy, an observer, but deep down there are stories and experiences to fill your days like a really good book. I met David many years ago through the Minnesota Rovers Outdoors Club, a really great outdoors club based out of the Twin cities, Minnesota.

David is currently somewhere in Mexico or is it South America?  You will have to check David's bicycle tour Blog to see where he is at this moment , because David is reCycling the World! Although those play on of words really got me excited about some great ...<< MORE >>
